Text of Atlanta-Fulton Public Library Staff Petition
Mailed July 6, 1998 to the Library Board of Trustees

Whereas the circumstances of the Director's resignation are most disturbing to us; and

Whereas a current acrimonious state of affairs within the Board of Trustees and between the Board of Trustees and the Director has been publicly aired and debated; and

Whereas we, the members of the Staff Association and Staff of the Library feel that it is unlikely that the current Board of Trustees will be able to attract candidates who are of the highest caliber to replace the Director;

Therefore, we call upon the entire Board of Trustees to resign, and we ask that the legal authorities responsible for the Trustees' appointment select a new Board of Trustees comprised of leaders and library patrons chosen from the business and neighborhood communities, who have experience, who will work for the betterment of the whole Library System, and will keep in mind the bests interests of the Library System, the City, and the County.

[Signed by 260 employees of the Library System]
