July's Circ Stats Confirm "The Usual Suspects"
are the Busiest - and Least-Busy - Libraries
Posted August 5, 2006
Last month's circulation totals show
the same patterns they always do in terms of which branches consistently
handle the bulk of the library system's lending (and re-shelving) activity.
Though there were some slight changes in ratings for some of the least-busy
libraries compared to the previous month’s rankings,
there was no change in the rankings of the busiest third (11) of them.
This never-changing busiest group of branches consistently handles
over 80% of the library sytem’s total lending and reshelving activity.
The chronic lopsidedness of the workloads at AFPL branches is
an old story that remains distressingly unaddressed by any significant
administrative changes in either branch staff allocations or in changes in
the relative sizes of branch budgets for purchasing library materials.
Obviously-needed adjustments should be made in both of these crucial areas.
Those changes should've been made a long, long time ago.
