Ms. Earl was the classic symtom of what's wrong with the library system. She
thought that she knew it all and wouldn't/couldn't learn from anyone about
anything having to do with the Central Library. Her ignorance about managing
facilities, about managing personnel, and about library reference service was appalling,
but right in line with this administration's accepted level of knowledge and
performance. It is sad that such a person is about to be inflicted upon the library
users of Nashville, but, as the saying goes: their loss is our gain.
